How Chakras are Connected with Reiki

During a Reiki session, most often the receiver of Reiki will experience the practitioner’s hands above or gently placed on or near the areas of the body where chakras are located. According to the interpretation of the human body as being an energy system, we have seven major chakras and many more throughout our body. These are the main chakras most commonly identified in the diagram below.

Each chakra flows at a rapid frequency that emanates a color, and when energy is flowing through the chakra rapidly as it should, the chakra radiates its beautiful vibrant color. Each chakra has a correlating endocrine gland it is responsible for and associated organs and systems.

The word ‘chakra’ is derived from the ancient language Sanskrit meaning “wheel” or “vortex”. Earliest documented mention of chakras is in the Vedas, ancient Hindu text from India as early as 1500 B.C. Chakras are connected to channels of energy that run through the body called nadis in Traditional Chinese Medicine, or meridians in the yoga tradition. Meridians or nadis also flow through our auric layers which extend out up to six feet beyond our physical body.

Reiki clears energy blocks.. When energy is flowing in harmony, and the chakras are in balance for optimum well-being, some refer to this as “balancing your chakras”. In this way, Reiki treatments address the entire human body rather than a single specific symptom.

In Reiki Level One class, students learn about the energy system in addition to how to gauge when energy is flowing or blocked.
