Reiki Practices

Everyday, Reiki Practices for Challenging Times

We’ve all been doing our best to navigate the heightened unpredictability of our times. The push and pull of challenging and opposing energies. We’ve been on this intense ride for over two years, and for some of us maybe longer.

Do you notice where some weeks feel unusually more intense with seemingly constant bumps and blocks? Or maybe those weeks feel like one after the other? If you are reading this and saying ‘Heck Yes!’, then I am feeling a version of your experience too!

My past week was one such week, each day something new: Bijou our pup was severely sick, a ceiling leak in the Reiki room caused scheduling impacts to sessions and trainings, delivery issues, Dean had dropped his keys through gap in the elevator floor, an unexpected scheduled repair at our rental unit, just to name a few things…and I’ll be honest, I enjoy my livelihood and my life is busy. I found myself saying, “I don’t have time for this!” and then upon noticing the text messages between my husband and I which included photos of moldy cheese and dog poop (sorry if TMI), “This is utterly comical!”

Reiki is a practical method and lifestyle to navigate life’s turbulences with more ease and connectedness to peace. In my personal experience, a daily practice of self-Reiki combined with sharing Reiki with others through sessions and training is what contributes 100% to my ability to bounce back during and after periods of upheaval. I’m able to see the bits of humor, of being present and productive without becoming derailed by emotions. In years past, before consistent Reiki practices in my life, things I did or said which I felt uncertain about would ruminate endlessly as would emotions. These things would keep me from thinking or communicating clearly, and I would navigate my life unaware that I was stuck in a place of fear.

How I Use Reiki Practices During Difficult Times ~ Daily Practices for Self, Home & Family

No matter how life is going, I give myself a full Reiki session (also known as ‘self-Reiki’) in the morning before getting out of bed or in the evening as I am about to go to sleep. Sometimes I’ll do both, particularly during a difficult situation. I’ll use Bijou being sick to help illustrate all the ways I’ll use Reiki practices to support the situation and get back into balance.

Upon learning she was sick, I notice what I’m feeling and where the sensations are showing up in my body. I place Reiki hands there. If I ‘go up in my head’ meaning I over think things and then work a plan rather than being in the moment, I will place Reiki hands on my hips or tops of my thighs to get more grounded and connected to my body. If I’m feeling anxiety and worry, I’ll take a few deep breaths and place Reiki hands on my heart chakra or solar plexus. Or one hand on one chakra and the other. My awareness and attention turns to Reiki, simultaneously of whatever I’m doing in the present moment. It’s a little bit like when you drive a car and your thoughts are elsewhere. Further, I’ll apply Reiki symbols as I feel guided to use in the moment to bring about grounding, balance and peace. I use my Reiki hands in the moment of the situation occurring. It might sound a little bit like rubbing your head and belly at the same time because I’m tuned into the event, and also tuned into my experience with Reiki. As a practitioner, you can learn how to do this with practice. Just like anything, if you invest time with it, you will get out of it what you put in.

Using this same example of Bijou being sick, I give Bijou Reiki sessions once or twice a day on the days she was very sick. Sometimes I give them to her when her symptoms are very bad, and sometimes she shows me she wants Reiki when she leans her back up against me when I’m on the ground with her. I place my hands on her sides of her belly as her digestive system was severely upset this past week, and this has been the area she has most issues in general. She will leave the room when she feels she has had enough Reiki. Sometimes it is ten minutes, sometimes less or more. I’ll also send Reiki to her from a distance if she has moved further away from me but she is still in the room. I’ve come to learn that she just wants some space, but still wants Reiki.

Finally, I send Reiki throughout our home. I’ll beam Reiki in the rooms and doorways, and use the Reiki power symbol in corners. We spend a lot of time in our home. I’ll smudge if I need to, and in the mornings open up all the windows to let fresh air run through the apartment. This all helps keep the energy clear. The frequency is really when I feel it needs it. It could be daily during heavy challenging times. One of my favorite times to share Reiki with my family is at night, and when Dean and Bijou are drifting off to sleep. I use Reiki for protection, clearing, loving and peaceful energies to cascade over our family and through our home. I will do this daily.

Reiki Inspires & Empowers Us

With consistent Reiki practices, patterns that keep us from feeling empowered or able to bounce back during times of stress and upheaval, dissolve. With Reiki, our loved ones and our environment can receive healing and clearing to sustain tough times. These upheaval times can become the source of humor and creativity as well as spiritual inspiration.

Speaking of inspiration, being that it is winter here in Denver and now coming off of this challenging week – with Bijou feeling better too – it felt perfect to celebrate by getting cozy and roasting some marshmallows!
